ZORBAS: The Book-The Film-The Dance. The Hellenic Community of Ireland took part in the Liberties Festival 2026 by co-celebrating 80 years since the first publication of the novel Zorbas with the International Society of Friends of Nikos Kazantzakis, which donated a prize of 8 books of Zorbas and 8 books of the Serpent and the Lily by Nikos Kazantzakis. The book became a film by director Michalis Kakoyiannis and the music of Mikis Theodorakis gave us the famous Zorbas dance. Two members of our Greek Dancing in Ireland dancing group demonstrated part of the dance to the enthusiastic participants, including Imelda May, Austin Campbell l and #michaelmcdermott, while the screen by Crowdlink showed clips from the film. The Greek School of Ireland celebrated the International Day of the Greek Language with the James Joyce Centre utilising the exhibition that was devoted to James Joyce and Homer and the corresponding chapters between Ulysses by James Joyce and Odysseus by Homer.

Our school participated with great joy in the events for the World Day of the Greek Language, celebrated on February 9th. This year, the festive celebration was dedicated specifically to the first Greek Nobel laureate, Giorgos Seferis. Students of all ages from our school presented poems and songs by the esteemed Greek poet. The Ambassador of Greece, Mrs. Magdalini Nikolaou, and the Ambassador of Cyprus, Mr. Louis Telemachou, honoured us with their presence at the event.
